Benjamin Dickerson;
Multi-Disciplinary Creative Professional
Since November of 2010 I have lived in Ottawa working to develop a professional video solution as my part of the Communications team for Canada’s New Democrats, among this body of work was original broadcast and online content for the 2011 Federal and Provincial elections. At the 2011 Federal NDP Convention, I developed an entire video showcase outlining celebrating the history of New Democrat accomplishments and leadership throughout its fifty-year history. Following that, I was the go to person to co-create a video tribute to the late Jack Layton at his 2011 State Funeral, which was by far the most distinguished and difficult honour I have and may ever experience. More recently, my job has moved into the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition where I continue to produce and create original content to support the 102 MP’s and the leader… While volunteering on the central leadership campaign to create materials leading to the election of the next leader of Canada’s NDP.
I grew up in Toronto’s creative industry working many roles over the previous ten years. The 6 years before moving to Ottawa I was able to work with just about every conceivable video or film format and distribution platform. I speak fluent spatial resolution, compression, bandwidth and data rates for just about every video codec out there. My strong design background led me into a love affair with After Effects. However, I am perhaps most formidably an Apple Certified Level One Final Cut Pro user. I have even spent some time teaching video production and post-production techniques at Centennial College, Carbon Sound & Picture, Trinity Square Video and OCAD.
I graduated from OCADU’s Integrated media program, it focuses on time based sculpture/installation, kinetic art, performance, video, sound and online art, so I have a pretty hefty mixed bag of skills. Also, because I grew from a creative background of traditional Art Practices, such as Drawing and Painting.
